Testing the loading mechanism on an LTO drive.
You only need to perform this test if instructed to do so by the Symply support team. The test aims to find out if there is a fault with the loading / unloading mechanism of a tape drive, or whether failed loads are due to bad media. The test takes approximately 5 minutes and will automatically load and Unload the tape 10 times (10 test loops), so the total test time is approximately 15 minutes.
Note: Please make sure to use a scratch (blank) data cartridge when carrying our the test. Please use a different cartridge to one that may have been generating errors.
- Place the drive in [maintenance mode]
- Press Unload once per second until L displays in the SCD. (If you cycle past the wanted code, press Unload once per second until the code reappears.)
- Press and hold Unload for 3 or more seconds, then release it to select the function. The SCD changes to a flashing C, requesting a cartridge.
- Insert a scratch (blank) data cartridge. The SCD changes to a flashing L and the tape drive runs the tests.
- If no error is detected, the diagnostic test loops and begin again. To stop the loop, press Unload for 1 second and release. When the loop ends, 0 temporarily displays in the SCD, and the tape drive exits Maintenance mode.
If an error is detected, the Fault light flashes and the drive posts an error code to the SCD, please let the Symply support team know what that error is.
To clear the error either turn the power off and then on again, or reboot the drive by pressing and holding Unload for 10 seconds.
